Constellation: Cygnus

Simeis 57, the Propeller nebula, consists of two Hα emission nebulas (H-II regions) in the constellation of Cygnus. These H-II regions are DWB* 111 and DWB 119. It is thought to be located at a distance of 5’500 Ly from Earth. Link to interactive sky chart.

The bright bluish nebulosity (due to high concentrations of ionized ozygen) at the bottom (south) of the image is LBN 251, and to its northeast is LBN 259. The redish nebulosity to its west is LBN 243. At the top of the image, one can see the southern portion of the supernova remnant G82.2+5.3 (W63), while to the northeast the bright blue structure is the planetary nebula PNG 080.2+05.8.
