The Pillars of Creation, are composed of interstellar gas and are located in the Eagle nebula (Messier 16), in the constellation of Serpens. The nebula is located about 6’500-7’000 Ly from earth.
The data was taken with NIRCAM. The image was built using the following filter map: Red=f444w-f470n; Green=f335m; Green-Blue=f200w; Green-Blue=f187n and Blue=f090w.
Messier 74, the Phantom galaxy, is a spiral galaxy in the constellation Pisces. The galaxy contains two clearly defined spiral arms and is therefore used as an archetypal example of a grand design spiral galaxy. It is also known as NGC 628. It is estimated that M74 hosts about 100 billion stars. Its distance from Earth is about 32 million Ly.
NGC 3324 is an open cluster in the constellation of Carina. It is associated wiht the emission nebula IC 2599, also known as Gum 31 and the Gabriela Mistral nebula. The open cluster is 9’100 Ly from earth.
NGC 3324 was taken with NIRCAM. The image was built using the following filter map: Red=f444w-f470n; Green=f335m; Green-Blue=f200w; Green-Blue=f187n and Blue=f090w.
Messier 66, also known as NGC 3627, is an intermediate spiral galaxy in the southern, equatorial half of the constellation Leo. This galaxy is a member of a small group of galaxies that includes M65 and NGC 3628, known as the Leo Triplet. It is located about 31 million Ly from Earth.
Messier 66 was taken with NIRCAM. Colour mapping: Red=f360m; Green=f335m; Blue=f300m.
WR124, is located about 20’500 Ly away in the constellation of Sagitta. WR124 is a Wolf-Rayet star is surrounded by an ejection nebula of expelled material known as M1-67. M1-67 is approximately 6 lightyears across, making it about 20,000 years old.
WR124 was taken with NIRCAM. Colour mapping: Red=f444w; Green=f335m; Blue=f210m and f150w.
