LDN 1082 and NGC 6946

Constellation: Cepheus

LDN 1082 (Barnard 150), the Seahorse nebula, is an elongated dark cloud in the constellation Cepheus. The cloud is so dense that the light of the stars behind is completely absorbed. It is located 2 degrees to the east of NGC 6946, the Fireworks galaxy. North-West of NGC 6946, we find NGC 6939, an open cluster that lies about 4’000 Ly from Earth. It is part of a wider region with many interesting objects in the south of Cepheus. Link to interactive sky chart.
