Sh2-71

Constellation: Aquila

Sh2-71 is a complex planetary nebula in the constellation of Aquila. It is about 3’260 Ly away. The unusual elongated appearance of this planetary nebula was probably caused by a triple star system that has later broken apart. The third component was a long-period orbiting a binary central star.  Link to interactive sky chart.
