NGC 6822, Barnard’s galaxy
Constellation: Sagittarius
NGC 6288, Barnard’s galaxy, is a barred irregular galaxy located in the constellation of Sagittarius, approximately 1.6 million Ly from Earth. It is one of the closer galaxies to the Milky Way (member of the Local Group of galaxies), and is similar in structure and composition to the Large Magellanic Cloud. It features several large H-II regions, including the Ring and the Bubble nebulae that are well visible to the North-West. Link to interactive sky chart.
