NGC 5084

Constellation: Virgo

NGC 5084 is a Seifert 2 lenticular galaxy in the constellation Virgo. It is located 81.9 million Ly from Earth and is 770’000 Ly across. It is seen edge-on and is one of the largest and most massive galaxies in the Virgo supercluster. To the SSE, we see the galaxy MCG-04-32-007 and to the WSW, we see the lenticualr galaxy MCG-04-32-002. Almost halfway between these two galaxies is GALEXASC J132012.36-220008.9, and active galaxy nucleus candidate. Link to interactive sky chart.
