Messier 8, The Lagoon nebula

Constellation: Sagittarius

The Lagoon nebula (Messier 8, NGC 6523, Sharpless 25, RCW 146, and Gum 72) is a giant interstellar cloud in the constellation Sagittarius. It is an emission nebula and has an H-II region. It is located between 4’000 and 6’000 ly from Earth and is 110 Ly wide and 50 Ly high. Link to interactive sky chart.
