IC 2177, The head of the Seagull nebula

Constellation: Monoceros

IC 2177 (a. k. a. Sh 2-292, RCW 2 and Gum 1) is an emission nebula (H-II region) in the constellation Monoceros. It is located about 3’800 Ly from Earth. The central bright star is HD 53367, which is a triple star system. The primary member of this system is a variable Herbig Ae/Be star. Link to interactive sky chart.

Data acquired remotely in December 2025 using Martin Pugh’s equipment.

His telescope is located in Chile (Observatorio El Sauce).

Colour palette is BHSO with RGB stars.
