CG 30 and CG 31
Constellation: Puppis
CG 30 and CG 31 are two cometary globules in the constellation of Puppis. The area also shows several smaller globules, dark dust clouds as well as the Herbig Haro objetc (HH) 120 located within CG 30, near the star HD 68049. They are located about 1’300 Ly from Earth. A cometary globule is an interstellar cloud with comet-like morphology, consisting of compact, dusty opaque heads with long faintly luminous tails. Unlike dark nebulae or dark dust clouds, CG’s are isolated neutral globules surrounded by a hot ionized medium.
