Sh2-115
Constellation: Cygnus
Sh2-115 is an emission nebula and H-II region in the constellation of Cygnus. It is about 7’500 Ly away. The primary source ionizing the nebula is the open cluster named Berkeley 90 located in the eastern part of the nebula, and the star responsible for ionization is the O-type star LS III +46 12 (O4.5IV(f)). Three other stars named DM 46 2972 (O9.5 V), DM 46 2978 (B0III) and LS III 46 12 (O6) are also suspected to be involved in the ionization.
To the North West we see the planetary nebula PN A66 71 (PN G084.9+04.4) and to the South we see the H-II region Sh2-112, which contains a large number of candidate young stellar objects. The ionizing star is BD+45 3216, of spectral type O8V C, which is a double star about 7’500 Ly away. Link to interactive sky chart.
