Sh2-101 and NGC 6946

Constellation: Cygnus

Sh2-101, the Tulip nebula, is an emission nebula in the constellation Cygnus. It lies about 6’000 Ly from Earth. To the northeast lies the Wolf-Rayet star WR133, part of a binary star system and the open cluster NGC 6871. Link to interactive sky chart.

Celestron 9.25″ EdgeHD with Hyperstar 4.0 on a Celestron CGX-L mount. Guiding with Tecnosky 70/400 and ASI290MM Mini.

NGC 6871, a loose open cluster containing the Wolf-Rayet star WR133.

WR133 is located just above the center of the image below.

South of the Tulip nebula (Sh2-101), one can also see Sh2-100 (left) and Sh2-99 (right) near the bottom of the image. Also, the planetary nebula StDr 103 stands out very nicely just south of Sh2-101. Further south, just north of Sh2-100 and Sh2-99, one can see the bright part of the SNR 70.5+1.9.
