NGC 4725, NGC 4712, NGC 4747 and PK 339+88.1

Constellation: Coma Berenices

This image shows NGC 4725 and the region to its East. It also shows the spiral galaxy NGC 4712 (just West of NGC 4725), the barred spiral galaxy NGC 4747 and the planetary nebula PK 339+88.1/PN_LoTr5. NGC 4725 is 40.1 million Ly away from Earth. This region lies 1.6° south of the North Galactic Pole.

Tidal interaction with NGC 4725, is the generally accepted cause for the severe distortion of the smaller NGC 4747 galaxy.

PK 338+88.1 / LoTr5 is a planetary nebula with an unusual long-period binary central star (Link), and the closest plantary nebula to the North Galactic Pole.
