Messier 64, the Black Eye galaxy, is a spiral galaxy in the constellation Coma Berenices. A dark band of absorbing dust partially in front of its bright nucleus gave rise to its nicknames of the “Black Eye”, “Evil Eye”, or “Sleeping Beauty” galaxy. It is also known as NGC 4826. Its distance from Earth is about 17.3 million Ly.
