Constellation: Cassiopeia

CTB-1*, sometimes called the Garlic or the Medulla nebula, is a faint supernova remnant in the constellation Cassiopeia. It is located 9’784 Ly away from earth and spans about 98 Ly. It has been estimated to be approx. 10’000 years old. Link to interactive sky chart.

Notes:
This SNR was initially catalogued by George Abell as a planetary nebula as number 85,  but it was later re-classified as a galactic SNR (SNR G116.9+00.1).
CTB denotes the Caltech Observatory list B catalogue of 110 radio sources discovered in a radio survey in 1960.

656 14″ Corrected Newtonian on a ASA DDM100 mount.
